How to play Hi-Lo

Hi-Lo is the card-counting classic boiled down to one decision: a single card sits face up, and you call whether the next one will be higher or lower. Guess right and your multiplier steps up; guess again and it compounds. The catch is that one wrong call ends the streak and takes the lot, so the real game is deciding when to cash out.

The deck is crypto-shuffled server-side and never revealed — the same provably-fair idea behind the rest of the arcade. Crucially, the odds for each call are computed from the cards that are actually still in play, so they shift as the shoe depletes and a fresh deck is shuffled in automatically once it runs low — your streak can keep growing for as long as your nerve holds. Every multiplier carries a small house edge, which is why the payout for each step is always a touch below the fair price of the odds. With virtual points and no real money on the line, Hi-Lo is a clean way to feel how RTP and variance trade off against a growing reward.

Rules

  1. Set a bet between 10 and 100 points and deal the first card.
  2. Call Higher or Lower on the next card. Equal counts as a win on either side, so it never busts you.
  3. Each call shows its live win chance and the matching multiplier — likelier calls pay less, riskier calls pay more, and they always move in opposite directions.
  4. A correct guess compounds your running multiplier; a wrong guess busts the round and you lose your stake.
  5. You can cash out after any correct guess to bank bet × multiplier. There is no forced ending — the deck reshuffles when it runs low, so only a bust or a cashout finishes the round.
  6. Wins are capped at +500 points per round and per day, so very long streaks may be trimmed to that ceiling.

Tips from Jérôme

  • Read the card, not a hunch. A 7 is a near coin-flip, but an Ace or a King makes one side almost certain — take the safe call cheaply and let the multiplier creep up.
  • Set a target streak before you deal and cash out when you hit it. The house edge compounds with every step, so "just one more" is how good streaks evaporate.
  • Mind the per-round cap: once your projected win nears +500, extra guesses add risk without adding reward — that is usually the moment to bank.
  • The shuffle has no memory. A run of high cards does not make a low one "due" — that is just variance, and chasing it only burns points faster.
  • It is virtual points and just for fun — pick a stopping point and enjoy the swing up to it.
